Happy New Year! With some news and things about the future...
over 4 years ago – Wed, Jan 01, 2020 at 12:43:29 AM

Hello Everyone,

We want to wish each one of you a happy new year and also update you on what's going on with A Prince's Errand.

On Dec 3rd we official released the book commercially and since then it's been on one or more bestsellers lists on Amazon.com: Classic Fantasy, Military Fantasy, Dragons & Mythical Creatures Fantasy, Sword & Sorcery Fantasy, to name a few.  It has consistently sat on Classic Fantasy list every day since launch.  As of today, A Prince's Errand is a #1 New Release in Classic Fantasy.

Reviews

As you can see in that screenshot we have only a couple of reviews.  When it comes to Amazon, reviews sell books and the more reviews a book has helps the Amazon algorithm choose what books to promote.  There are a few different tiers that the algorithm considers: 5 reviews, 50, and 500.  Once a book hits those review tiers the algorithm does a little more to sell those books.

So we would like to ask a huge favor of you, could you click the link below and write a brief review?  Please be honest, and if you didn't like the book that's okay, we still want your review.  Even critical reviews can be beneficial on Amazon.  You can also mention that you backed the Kickstarter in your review (that helps prevent the review from not being listed, since it doesn't show up as a verified purchase).

Audiobook Production & Kickstarter

That's right, A Prince's Errand is going to become an audiobook.  Production is slated to begin on Jan 25th and will wrap up sometime around March 30th, give or take a few days for revisions that need to be made.  Although, we doubt much will need to be done since our narrator is topnotch.  No, we're not quite ready to announce who is narrating, but we're very excited to have him on the team.

We do plan to launch a Kickstarter to help offset the audiobook production.  We're going to start it off at the same goal we ran for this Kickstarter, $5,000 and if we manage to raise the total cost we're going to commission the narration of A Thief's Way and include the audiobook version  of that story as a free bonus to every backer.

Look for the Audiobook Kickstarter to drop sometime in February or March.  We're still working on the logistic of delivering the audiobook and some other matters.

Once again, thank you all for your support in helping bring A Prince's Errand to life. We couldn't have accomplished what we have done with each of you and your support.  We hope you all have a happy new year.

Sincerely, Dan & Robert Zangari

Hello Everyone!

As of today, all of our physical and digital rewards have been shipped.  Most everyone should have received their physical rewards at the beginning of October.  B&N Press just sent us our reprints last week and we shipped those hardcovers.

For those of you who have not grabbed your digital rewards you can still download them until Dec 3rd.  The link for the short-story bonus (if you opted to subscribe to our mailing list) will be available til the end of the year.  That link can be found in your messages here on Kickstarter.

If you have had any problems with downloading your digital rewards please contact us via a message here on Kickstarter.

So what's next?

Audiobook

We're currently working on producing an audiobook for A Prince's Errand.  We don't have a set timeline yet as far as when it will be released, but we're hoping for sometime mid-to-late 2020.

You're probably wondering if we're going to launch a Kickstarter for the audiobook and the answer is, possibly?  The project is going to cost roughly $12,000 so a Kickstarter is more than justifiable.  The main challenge with that campaign will be what to offer for bonuses besides the audiobook.  The book will most likely be delivered by audible, so it really won't be available in advance of the commercial release.  We don't really see much of an advantage for our Kickstarter backers unless we're delivering something else besides the audiobook.  If you have suggestions of what you would like to see as rewards for an audiobook campaign feel free to leave a comment below.

Future Kickstarters

In 2020 we plan to launch at least one Kickstarter for The Dark Necromancer and possibly a second for The Prisoner of Tardalim (a prequel novel to the Tales of the Amulet series).  This all depends on our editor's schedule.  We already have the cover art for The Dark Necromancer, which if you've read or flipped through A Prince's Errand you've seen the advert for it.

Expect the Kickstarter for The Dark Necromancer to launch sometime next fall.  We started working on the first draft in early October (Robert wrote the opening chapter while attending David Farland's Advanced Writing Workshop the week of the 7th).  If the time it took to write A Prince's Errand is anything to judge by it will probably take around nine months to complete The Dark Necromancer, and then another three months for us to revise and edit it.

With this Kickstarter we learned our lesson and we'll launch the campaign a month and a half before our scheduled start date with our editor--this way we don't have an extra long delay in getting the book delivered.

As for The Prisoner of Tardalim we might launch a Kickstarter for it in the spring or summer of 2020.  That story is mostly done and we plan to finish it for NaNoWriMo.  Again, this all depends on Linda's availability.  We don't have a cover for it, but Kerem Beyit will squeeze the project into his schedule.

Reviews

Once A Prince's Errand is available commercially readers will be able to leave reviews for the book.  Some of you have sent us messages with your praise and we'd love for you to share that in the form of a review.  Retailers will be allowing reviews on Dec 4th, 2019, so head on over to your favorite retailer's website and post an honest review.  We'll also send out messages with direct links so you can simply click, type and submit.

If any of you who backed the project are a blogger or host a podcast or run any other sort of show we would love to have your review to include in our editorial reviews.  Simply send us a message on Kickstarter or via our contact page here.

Once again, we appreciate each one of you for your support.  Thank you so much for helping us bring A Prince's Errand to life!  We hope each of you enjoy the story.

Sincerely,

Dan & Robert Zangari
